Big Company April Fools’ Jokes
April 2, 2014
If you missed the April Fools’ Day jokes yesterday, don’t worry, we rounded up our top five pranks of the day. Enjoy!
1. But First… Let Me Take An Orbotix SelfieBot
Selfies are HUGE right now, so we can’t really be surprised when several large company’s April Fools jokes revolved around infamous selfies. Orbotix, makers of smartphone-controlled orb Sphero, created this extremely well thought of SelfieBot prank. The bot is a flying orb able to take perfect selfie photos always close by and always ready to get the perfect shot. We even got attached to the little guy, despite the somewhat creepy tagline, “always watching…for life’s precious moments”.
2. Pokémon takes over Google Maps
“Dozens of wild Pokémon have taken up residence on streets, amidst forests and atop mountains throughout Google Maps,” explained Google. “To catch ’em all, grab your Poké Ball and the newest version of Google Maps for
iPhone or Android. Then tap the search bar, press start, and begin your quest.”
This was a more obvious April Fools’ Day joke – this type of advanced gaming is obviously not capable to use on your smartphone…. YET. But Google will still let you catch Pokémon with Google Maps.
3. Google+ Auto Awesome Photobombs
Going along with the “selfie” theme, Google+ had an epic April Fools’ Day prank. The Google+ team claims the Auto Awesome feature for the iOS or Android Google+ apps now includes photobombing by celebrities. The first celeb who “signed up” was none other than David Hasselhoff himself.
The idea behind the app is to upload a selfie or group portrait and make sure to leave some room for “everyone’s favorite crime-fighting rockstar lifeguard” and the app with automatically put The Hoff in the image.
While this may not be the best surprise prank in the bunch, it’s an inventive app that actually worked yesterday.
4. Moo.com’s Delivery Pugs
Moo.com, the online only printing store, came up with the genius idea of trying out delivery pugs. This April Fool’s should be real.
5. BWM
This particular video is especially teasing by making the viewer believe they are watching a commercial for a new car, when in actuality they are seeing a baby cot that “embodies the spirit of The Ultimate Driving Machine”. Yes, new parents, we are sorry to crush your dreams, but the BMW Sleeping Machine is indeed an April Fool’s joke.
